Drop Off and Collection Site for The Big Island Giving Tree

This holiday season, Tutu’s House is a drop off location for BIGT donations. New, unused blankets (twin or larger), new fuzzy socks and beanies for kupuna are needed, and will be provided to those living in elderly housing complexes in Waimea, Honokaa and Kohala. They can be dropped off at Tutu’s House during regular hours now through Dec. 20. For more information about BIGT activities and volunteer opportunities, call Rhonda at 880-1984.

Family Science Night at Earl’s Garage will be held on Dec. 2, hosted by Katherine DuBose-Oliver. This is a great opportunity for family members of all ages to work together and spend time exploring hands on activities. Everything is provided, including food and supplies. Registration is required, and space is limited. Call Katherine at 885-6777 by Nov. 30 to reserve space for your ohana.

Chair Yoga will meet from 9:30–10:15 a.m. on Dec. 2, 9 and 16 with Michiko Sato, CYT. This gentle, yoga-in-a-chair practice is designed to stretch and strengthen the body without standing or lying on a mat. Class may also include some easy standing poses behind the chair.

Overeaters Anonymous is held from 12-noon—1 p.m. every Friday. OA is a fellowship of individuals who, through shared experience, strength and hope, are recovering from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors. OA welcomes anyone who wishes to stop eating compulsively.

Scrabble Meetup will gather from 1:30—4 p.m. on Dec. 2, 9 and 16 with Annabel Spielman. Word lovers of every age and skill level are encouraged to play this classic game with relaxed rules; dictionary use permitted. It’s a great way to retain and expand vocabulary, spelling, memory and observation skills in a congenial atmosphere.

Yoga Basics with Janet Lam will be on Dec. 5 and 19 from 8—9 a.m. Start your week feeling balanced, flexible and strong. This class includes fundamental yoga poses for beginning students. Although not specifically a beginner’s class, the movement sequence can easily accommodate students new to yoga or returning to a yoga practice.
